Bengali Wedding Menu — FAQ
What is a traditional Bengali wedding menu?
A Bengali wedding menu is a multi-course meal built around rice: started with fried bites, then fish or prawn curry, kosha mangsho (mutton), chana masala, and finished with the legendary mishti (sweets) course — rasgulla, rice kheer and kalakand.
What is kosha mangsho?
Kosha mangsho is a slow-cooked Bengali mutton curry, dark and intensely spiced, considered the highlight of a non-veg Bengali wedding. At 100 g per guest it is the priciest single dish on the plate (≈ ₹60/guest in our calculator).
How much fish or prawn for a Bengali wedding?
Plan 80 g per guest of fish curry or prawn masala — for 200 guests that is about 16 kg of fish fillet. Bengali weddings almost always include at least one fish or prawn dish before the mutton course.
What are the must-have Bengali wedding sweets?
Rasgulla, rice kheer (payesh) and kalakand are the mishti standards. A Bengali sweet course is generous — plan 2 sweets per guest plus the dessert station, and mishti is served both at the ceremony and the reception.
Is a Bengali wedding menu veg or non-veg?
Traditionally it is non-veg — fish, prawn and mutton — but every Bengali wedding also serves a full veg menu (chana masala, dal, rice) so all guests eat well. Our Bengali Wedding preset is a both (veg + non-veg) menu.
How much does a Bengali wedding menu cost per plate?
A fish-and-mutton Bengali menu prices ₹700–1,200 per plate at 2026 rates (Kolkata ₹700–1,000, Tier-1 ₹1,000–1,400). Fish and mutton push the plate ₹150–300 above a pure-veg menu.
