How RecipeScaler Works

Most recipe converters use water density (1 cup = 236g) for everything. This is wrong for cooking. 1 cup of Atta weighs 120g, while 1 cup of Toor Dal weighs 200g.

1. Ingredient-Specific Densities

We maintain a verified database of Indian ingredients. Every time you pick an ingredient, we use its specific density to convert between volume (cups/tbsp) and weight (grams). This ensures your ratios stay perfect even when scaling up for 20 people.

2. Linear Scaling Logic

We use the formula: (Target Servings / Original Servings) ├Ч Original Amount. However, we also provide the output in grams because weight is the most accurate way to measure dry ingredients when scaling recipes.

3. Standardized Measurements

We use the Standard US Cup (240ml) as our baseline, which is the most common cup used in modern Indian kitchen measuring sets. 1 Tablespoon is always 15ml.
