At 2× or larger, adjust these:
Leavening & salt don't scale linearly — follow ×1.25 (leavening) and ×1.5 (salt/spice) guidance and taste-test before baking.
⏱️ How does cooking time scale?
Cooking time rarely scales linearly with serving count. Volumetric dishes (curries, dals, rice) need only slightly longer; geometric foods (cakes, casseroles) take much longer as surface area vs volume changes.
- Curries, dals, soups: scale time ≈ 1.1–1.3× — shallow increments; simmer to taste.
- Rice, pasta, grains: keep time roughly the same; water absorbs at a similar rate.
- Cakes & roasts: use the "rule of +15–25% per doubling" — a 2× recipe may need ~25–35% more time, 4× needs ~45–60% more.
- Ovens: bake at the recipe's temperature; do NOT raise heat to bake faster (outside burns, inside stays raw).
- Always verify: taste, probe, or toothpick-test before pulling — the recipe's stated time is a starting point, not a guarantee.

Cake Portion Guide — How Much Per Person
A standard cake slice is roughly the size of a 100g piece. Use this as your scaling target.
| Cake | Servings | Approx Weight |
|---|---|---|
| Small sponge (6-inch) | 6–8 slices | 500–600g |
| Medium sponge (8-inch) | 10–12 slices | 900g–1kg |
| Large sponge (10-inch) | 16–20 slices | 1.5–1.8kg |
| Wedding tier | 80–150 | 8–14kg |
Classic Vanilla Sponge — Scaled Weights
Our vanilla sponge preset scaled to 4, 12 and 40 slices.
| Ingredient | 4 Slices | 12 Slices | 40 Slices |
|---|---|---|---|
| Maida | 188g | 563g | 1.9kg |
| Sugar | 200g | 600g | 2kg |
| Butter | 170g | 511g | 1.7kg |
| Milk | 122g | 366g | 1.2kg |
Cake Scaling Rules
- Scale by weight (grams), never by cups — a cup of butter (227g) and a cup of maida (125g) are very different
- Baking powder: keep the same proportion — too little = dense cake, too much = bitter collapse
- For large cakes, the base + filling (buttercream, fruit) needs its own scaling — add it as a separate ingredient row

आपके सवाल — हिंग्लिश में (Hinglish FAQ)
Cake recipe ko jyada slices ke liye kaise scale karein?+
RecipeScaler me original servings (jaise 8 slices) daalo, phir apna target (jaise 40) — har ingredient ka exact gram weight turant mil jayega. Weight se scale karo, cup se nahi.
1 cup maida kitne gram ka hota hai cake ke liye?+
1 cup maida = 125 gram, butter = 227 gram, chini = 200 gram, milk = 244 gram. Ye exact values hamare cake scaler me use hote hain.
Kya eggless cake scale ho sakta hai?+
Haan — egg ko replace karo (e.g. 1 egg = 50g curd/apple sauce) aur phir normal tarah scale karo. RecipeScaler se weight-based scaling hamesha accurate rehta hai.
Cake ka baking powder kya scale karein?+
Bilkul — baking powder bhi sab ingredients ki tarah same proportion me badhna chahiye. RecipeScaler use karein, har row exact weight dikhata hai.
