At 2× or larger, adjust these:
Leavening & salt don't scale linearly — follow ×1.25 (leavening) and ×1.5 (salt/spice) guidance and taste-test before baking.
⏱️ How does cooking time scale?
Cooking time rarely scales linearly with serving count. Volumetric dishes (curries, dals, rice) need only slightly longer; geometric foods (cakes, casseroles) take much longer as surface area vs volume changes.
- Curries, dals, soups: scale time ≈ 1.1–1.3× — shallow increments; simmer to taste.
- Rice, pasta, grains: keep time roughly the same; water absorbs at a similar rate.
- Cakes & roasts: use the "rule of +15–25% per doubling" — a 2× recipe may need ~25–35% more time, 4× needs ~45–60% more.
- Ovens: bake at the recipe's temperature; do NOT raise heat to bake faster (outside burns, inside stays raw).
- Always verify: taste, probe, or toothpick-test before pulling — the recipe's stated time is a starting point, not a guarantee.

Doubling & Halving Quick Reference
Doubling a recipe means multiplying every amount by 2. Here is the multiplier math this calculator runs for you.
| Original | Target | Multiplier |
|---|---|---|
| 4 servings | 2 servings | 0.5× |
| 4 servings | 6 servings | 1.5× |
| 4 servings | 8 servings | 2× |
| 4 servings | 12 servings | 3× |
| 4 servings | 16 servings | 4× |
Why Doubling Should Be Measured, Not Eyeballed
- 1 cup flour = 125 g but 1 cup honey = 340 g — doubling "cups" ruins the chemistry; doubling grams keeps it perfect.
- Leavening (baking powder, soda, yeast) should scale by only ×1.25–1.5 even when the batch doubles — the tool flags this for you.
- Salt and spices scale at about ×1.5 and then taste — seasoning concentrates, it does not double.
- Half an egg? Beat it and measure — a halved recipe often needs ½ an egg, shown as a sensible fraction.

कितनी रेसिपी दोगुनी करनी है? (Hinglish FAQ)
Recipe double karne par ingredients 2x karna sahi hai?+
Haan — weight (gram) me sab kuch 2x karein. Cup me double mat kijiye, kyunki 1 cup maida (125g) aur 1 cup honey (340g) alag hote hain. Baking powder aur salt ko sirf 1.25–1.5x rakhein, phir taste karein.
Half recipe ke liye adha anda kaise use karein?+
Ek anda phaad kar phoonk ke beat karein, phir uski aadhi matra measure karein. Karnataka dense ingredients me exact grams isliye use karte hain taki half recipe bhi perfect bane.
Recipe ko 3x ya 4x kaise scale karein?+
Is calculator me 3× ya 4× button dabayein — har ingredient instantly scale ho jayega. Bade batches me leavening aur spices ko thoda kam rakhein aur taste karte rahein.
